The Associated Press has declared incumbent Democratic Rep. Brad Schneider the winner of the 10th Congressional District.

The campaign this year saw Schneider of Highland Park trying to retain his seat in the 10th District against Republican challenger Joseph Severino of Lake Forest.first flipped Democratic in 2012 when voters elected Schneider over then-incumbent U.S. Rep. Bob Dold, a Republican. But then two years later, Dold defeated Schneider before voters in 2016 again sent Schneider to Washington, D.C. after he defeated Dold a second time.
The predominantly North Shore district, which remained largely intact amid recent redistricting following the 2022 Census, now stretches farther into the northwest suburbs to McHenry County and north to the Wisconsin border.Both general election candidates ran unopposed in the June primary, but Schneider garnered almost 53,000 votes in his unopposed primary win compared with Severino’s roughly 34,000 votes in sealing the GOP nomination.
Severino, a former CEO of an industry hospitality service company, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy to restructure debts of more than $1 million. He called for economic rebuilding and lower taxes, as well as fighting crime and imposing term limits.
