Advisers to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Tuesday voted unanimously to recommend use of Novavax Inc's COVID-19 vaccine for individuals aged 18 and above.

The US government has secured 3.2 million Novavax vaccine doses, but is waiting for the company to finish quality testing before they can be released. Novavax hopes to finish testing in the next few weeks. More than 77% of US adults have been fully vaccinated with shots from Moderna Inc MRNA.O, Pfizer-BioNTech PFE.N, BNTX.O, or Johnson & Johnson JNJ.N.
In July, Novavax said the vaccine shows broad immune response to currently circulating variants, including Omicron subvariants BA.4/5.
