Howling winds roared into Bay Area Tuesday afternoon, toppling trees, ripping down branches and triggering thousands of power outages across the San Francisco Peninsula.
Pacific Gas & Electric reported 12,357 customers without power and the number was growing. Trees were down on Jefferson Ave., Kingswood Dr., Woodside Rd., Clinton St. and Southgate Ave. in San Mateo County.
PG&E is reporting a total of nearly 23,000 customers without power as of 1 p.m. with 1,171 impacted in San Francisco as well as 4,331 customers in the North Bay and almost 5,000 customers affected in the South Bay. Cold temperatures arrive Wednesday morning and will last through Sunday. Frost advisories and freeze watches have been issued for Thursday morning.
A few thunderstorms are possible on Friday and Saturday with lightning, heavy rain, and small hail as the primary impacts.
