The Pinal County Sheriff's Office issued a"GO-EVACUATE" status for residents of the Riverside neighborhood outside of Kearny overnight.
Residents to the south from Ray Junction Road and SR177 to Kearny city limits were placed in"SET-Be Alert" status.Crews worked through the night in an effort to secure the edge on the east/southeast side of the fire, closest to Kearny, according to a social media post from the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management.
Engines focused on structure protection to properties ahead of the fire. They will continue those efforts today, the post said. The fire is at 400 acres with no containment. Additional resources, including strike teams, water tenders, another hand crew and a Type 3 helicopter will arrive today, the post said.The Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management says the Simmons Fire is currently burning near Arizona Highway 177 in Pinal County. The fire is about 20 acres, and firefighters are enroute.We can still see the smoke from the fire some 70 miles away on KGUN9's Mt. Bigelow Camera.
