The United Steelworkers rejected Marathon Oil’s latest proposal, but workers at BP Whiting Refinery and other locations across the country will continue working for now under the old pact.
Still, the international union warned that some locals, such as USW Local 7-1, at the Whiting Refinery, could be in for a battle.
The union said while many local units have made good progress in local bargaining, others are facing tough concessionary demands from BP, Ineos, Chevron and Citgo. ”BP’s position at local tables attacks the National Oil Bargaining Program. Pipeline and refinery locals stand together to fight back,” the USW said.
