The United Nations Security Council held a minute of silence Friday for victims of the war in Ukraine as Secretary General Antonio Guterres said Russia’s invasion had devastated the country.

“Since then, it has used the most extreme violence to deny the identity of a country and a people,” she said. Half of Ukrainian children have been forced from their homes, and face higher risks of violence, abuse and exploitation, he added. “Nearly 10 million people, including 7.8 million children, are at risk of acute post-traumatic stress disorder,” Guterres said.
