Dickinson senior Marcus Millender will be ineligible to play this season after the UIL executive committee affirmed a ruling that he transferred from Clear Brook for athletic purposes.Former Clear Brook basketball player Marcus “Smurf” Millender is ineligible to play his senior season at Dickinson after the UIL State Executive Committee on Monday unanimously denied an appeal of a decision that he transferred for athletic purposes.
Millender was originally ruled ineligible by the District 24-6A Executive Committee by a 3-2 vote Oct. 6 after enrolling at Dickinson in August. Millender and his family argued that the change of schools was due to him now living with his father within the Dickinson school zone. His mother works as a traveling nurse and is often out of town, which is why the family says Millender made the move.
Clear Brook basketball coach Nathan Janak claimed there were multiple incidents where Millender’s family was upset with him and the Clear Brook administration and threatened to transfer to a different school. It was also noted that Millender played AAU ball with another former Clear Brook player who is now on the team at Dickinson.
Millender was a first-team all-district selection last year after averaging 16.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, four assists and 1.7 steals per game while shooting 48 percent from the floor. He recently signed with South Alabama to continue his career at the college level.
