The U.S. Navy has named a new nuclear submarine after a Louisiana native. John H. Dalton was a former Secretary of the Navy, serving from 1993 to 1998.
A new submarine will bear the name of Louisiana native and formerDalton, who was born in New Orleans, was the 70th secretary of the Navy, serving from 1993 to 1998.
"I couldn’t be prouder to name this future submarine after John Dalton," said Secretary of the Navy Carlos Del Toro during theOfficer Selectee Dinner last week."He served as a proud submariner and as Secretary of the Navy. He took strong and principled stands against sexual assault and harassment and oversaw the integration of female Sailors onto combat ships.

According to the government, in January 2020, a Black employee found a hangman’s noose at his worksite at the Baton Rouge complex run by Exxon Mobil Corp. and reported it. At the time, the company knew of three other nooses that had been found at the complex, but it failed to investigate all the complaints and take action to prevent such harassment, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission said in its lawsuit filed Thursday.
