The OECD's broadband portal has reported that in the 2nd quarter of 2018, the share of high-speed fiber internet increased to 25%—a considerable increase on 12% 8 years ago

Thehas reported that in the second quarter of 2018, the share of high-speed fiber internet increased to 25%, a considerable increase on 12% eight years ago.

There are huge differences in the share of high-speed fiber broadband connections between countries and South Korea has made the greatest progress rolling out the technology in recent years. In mid-2018, just over 78% of all fixed broadband connections in South Korea used it, marginally ahead of Japan's 77%. By comparison, the United States still has a lot of work to do to catch up and during the same period, fiber connections only accounted for 13.8% of its total broadband connections.
