Mexico’s former top law enforcement officer was found guilty in a federal court Tuesday of helping the powerful Sinaloa drug cartel smuggle cocaine into the U.S.
A jury in Brooklyn convicted Genaro García Luna of all five counts he faced, including engaging in a criminal enterprise and conspiring to distribute drugs. Mr. García Luna headed Mexico’s federal investigation agency and served as the country’s minister for public security from 2006 to 2012 under then-president Felipe Calderón.
