The number of U.S. workers filing new applications for unemployment benefits rose last week but remained at a low level
Initial jobless claims, a proxy for layoffs across the U.S., increased by 6,000 to a seasonally adjusted 229,000 in the week ended March 9, the Labor Department said Thursday.
