FDA authorizes second COVID vaccine booster shot for people 50 and older
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said Tuesday it has authorized a second booster dose of either the Pfizer/BioNTech PFE, +0.89% BNTX, +3.87% or Moderna MRNA, +3.50% COVID-19 vaccines for people aged 50 and older.
The agency has also authorized a second booster for people aged 12 and older who are immunocompromised and at risk of developing severe illness. The second shot will be administered at least four months after receiving the first booster jab of any authorized or approved COVID vaccine."Emerging evidence suggests that a second booster dose of an mRNA COVID-19 vaccine improves protection against severe COVID-19 and is not associated with new safety concerns," the FDA said in a statement.
