School District U-46 plans to spend $29 million on capital improvement projects this year. From the Elgin Courier-News.
U-46 Director of Plant Operations Sheila Downs said the work at Tefft involves “an abatement of the ceiling and the installation of lights, drop ceiling and insulation for ductwork and other pipes.”
Bids are required for any project costing more than $50,000, and the U-46 School Board was briefed on the potential costs at its Jan. 10 meeting. Downs cautioned the board that inflation and continuing supply chain issues could drive up prices and impact project timetables. “So we are preparing instructional spaces to support these courses and give our students an opportunity to participate in hands-on learning opportunities that mirror the actual industry,” Downs said.
