Injuries to Rockets' Kevin Porter Jr. and Jalen Green have opened the door for TyTy...
SAN FRANCISCO — A dismal record and yet another season wallowing at the bottom of the NBA standings have perhaps made the Rockets experts in silver linings.
“For sure,” Washington said. “We’re missing some guys right now, so while they’re out it’s next-man-up mentality — and I happen to be the next man up. Just going to go out there and make the most of my opportunity.” Christopher, who previously admitted to being frustrated at times with his decreased role in his second season, said he has adjusted since receiving more regular playing time and is up to the challenge.
Silas acknowledged that the inconsistency of Washington’s playing time has made it difficult for the rookie to get in a rhythm. In 23 games played for the Rockets, Washington shot 36 percent from the field and just 9-of-50 on 3-pointers, numbers that Silas said don’t accurately reflect the capabilities Washington has shown in practice.
“I also want to see him make reads in pick-and-roll, get us organized, defensively get after the opposing point guard, be hard to screen, be the quarterback on the defensive end where we can get organized,” Silas said. “So it’s gonna be on him as well as on the defensive end to really get us going. But as far as him in particular, I want to see him shoot the basketball, make his reads on the offensive end and really try hard on the defensive end.
