The roughly 79.5 million-year-old fossil makes the new species 2.5 million years older than its closest relative. Thanatotheristes, which was approximately 30 feet long, likely preyed on large plant-eating dinosaurs, such as the horned Xenoceratops and the dome-headed Colepiochephale.
