Forward Timo Meier and defenseman Mario Ferraro are both considered questionable to play Friday
, potentially leaving the Sharks without two of their heavy-minute players in their home opener against the Carolina Hurricanes.
Neither Meier nor Ferraro practiced Thursday as Sharks coach David Quinn said both were “dealing with upper body issues.” Meier and Ferraro were full participants in practice on Wednesday. Meier is a top-line forward and was the Sharks’ leading scorer last season with 35 goals and 76 points. He had an assist and led the Sharks with 11 shots on goal in the team’s first two regular-season games against the Nashville Predators in Prague last weekend, both losses.
Meier was also third among all forwards, behind only Tomas Hertl and Logan Couture, with an average of 19:21 in ice time per game. Ferraro is a top-four defenseman and is second among all San Jose skaters with an average of 24:45 minutes of ice time through the team’s first two games. Ferraro also has two assists.
