This is the first time the USNS Comfort and Mercy, two massive floating hospitals, are deployed to deal with a pandemic
Designed to be deployed at war and treat scores of injured servicemen, the Navy’s two hospital ships are steaming to New York and California to help out with the coronavirus pandemic.
The USNS Mercy docked in Los Angeles on Friday and USNS Comfort will dock in Manhattan on Monday to provide a combined thousands of extra beds that will be used for non-Covid-19 cases, as scores of pandemic patients swarm land-based hospitals on both U.S. coasts.
