Two Cinderella horror movies are in production following the success of the children's story-inspired horror movie Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey.
Two new horror movies inspired by the folk tale Cinderella are currently in the works. In late May, the project Cinderella's Curse, which stars Curse of Humpty Dumpty 2's Kelly Rian Sanson, was announced with a planned release set for October. That movie is produced and directed by Louisa Warren, who previously collaborated with Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey producer Scott Jeffrey on a horror movie about the Tooth Fairy.
Per Deadline, Cinderella's Curse will have some competition coming soon with the newly announced movie Cinderella's Revenge. Andy Edwards is directing the project, which is currently in production in the UK. It will follow Cinderella teaming up with her Fairy Godmother to enact bloody revenge on her wicked stepmother and stepsisters. The cast also includes Stephanie Lodge, Beatrice Fletcher, Megan Purvis, and Darrell Griggs.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Can The Twisted Fairy Tale Trend Continue If None of the Movies Are Good? Both of these Cinderella movies are hopping on a recent trend of turning classic fairy tales and children's stories into twisted horror stories. These have been made possible either by entering the public domain, or in the case of the Grinch-inspired The Mean One, by changing details to avoid copyrighted material.
The writer-director of Blood and Honey is currently working on a variety of horror reimaginings of stories including Bambi and Peter Pan in addition to a Winnie-the-Pooh sequel. While these titles are buzzy because of the subversion of classic children's material, the movies that have come out so far have generally been poorly received. Blood and Honey has a dismal 3 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes while The Mean One hardly fared better at 21 percent.
