After Elon Musk tweeted his $44 billion Twitter takeover was on hold last Friday and the stock fell, the Saudi royal picked up some shares. Less than a week later, he sold the same Twitter shares at a loss.
Twitter investor Prince Alwaleed of Saudi Arabia, one of the A-List investors providing Elon Musk with $7.1 billion of equity financing for his $44 billion Twitter takeover, did some interesting trading of the social media company’s stock over the last week.
The price at which Prince Alwaleed bought his shares suggests his trading happened at the end of the day Friday, with the market having digested the prospect of Musk calling off the acquisition or renegotiating a lower price. It appears to have been the first time in years that he’s bought or sold Twitter shares. According to the SEC filing late Wednesday, the 34.9 million Twitter shares he held before his latest transactions were acquired more than than five years ago.
Meanwhile, his original Twitter shares, which are locked up by his equity commitment to Musk, are worth 19.6% less than they were on April 13, the day before Musk went public with his plans, and 9.5% less than they were at Friday’s close.
