Twilight star Ashley Greene believes the vampire franchise is perfect for a television series, should the powers that be ever want to make one. Stephenie Meyer's YA book series has been a pop culture mainstay since the early 2000s, and its availability on streaming has kept the passion alive among fans. The Twilight Saga tracks the star-crossed love story between human teenager Bella Swan and immortal vampire Edward Cullen .
These days, Hollywood loves building upon its most beloved properties, leading to endless sequels, spinoffs, and prequels. With everything from Star Wars to Harry Potter seeing their universes expanded, it's almost surprising that Twilight hasn't gotten the same treatment. In 2020, Meyer released another book in the series, Midnight Sun; it was the long-awaited retelling of the first novel from Edward's perspective.
"I think, honestly, there is so much backstory with all these characters too, that you could 100 percent do a series, and not necessarily have to do a remake. I think there's still so much fascination behind, and around, these characters." Greene's TV idea might have some merit. Outside of Bella and Edward, the Twilight franchise is full of unique characters, particularly within the Cullen family. Each member had their own lives and transformations prior to the start of Twilight, and it could be interesting to dive into those backstories. An anthology format would allow for individual stories to be told with each episode, or perhaps it would attempt to string everyone's histories together in one lengthy saga.
The debut of Midnight Sun led many to wonder if a movie adaptation would be swift to follow. So far, nothing has come about, and there's a good chance it won't. Pattinson and Stewart have moved onto new projects, and Midnight Sun's role as a Twilight retelling already makes it difficult to justify its existence as a movie. Nevertheless, Greene and her co-star Kellan Lutz have signaled their interest in starring in a Midnight Sun movie if it ever happens.
