ON second thought, I wish I had been more guarded than dismissive in my prognosis on the FIBA World Cup in my August 29 column .When the curtain came down and the dust settled on the two-week competition last Sunday, September 10, the FIBA World Cup looked positively world-class, dramatic, exciting, packed with plenty of surprises.
Prior to the battle for bronze between the US and Canada at the Mall of Asia Arena on Sunday, September 10, FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis used the word 'excellent' to describe the Philippines' hosting of the world meet.'Manila has been an excellent host. I don't think it's easy to find anywhere else in the world this level of service to the visitors,' said Zagklis at a press conference.
