Trump-backed Michigan Attorney General candidate promotes 'active' 2020 election fraud lawsuit in Antrim County
The attorney behind a 2020 election fraud lawsuit in Antrim County, Michigan, who is running for a top state office is promoting the dismissed case as"active."
Matthew DePerno, a Republican candidate for Michigan attorney general endorsed by former President Donald Trump, has been tweeting in recent days from his personal and campaign accounts in an attempt to hype an appeals court hearing set for Tuesday. "This is among the most promising & active in the US to demand accountability for the corruption from the last election," DePerno said in one tweet teasing the"next step" in the lawsuit. The tweet also asks for $5 donations and links to a fundraising page.Other tweets ask people to join an"Election Integrity Task Force."
DePerno's appeal, on behalf of his client, Antrim County resident William Bailey, came after the case was dismissed last year by 13th Circuit Court Judge Kevin Elsenheimer, who stayed all other pending legal matters. Appellate briefs have been filed, and oral arguments have been requested, the Traverse County Record-Eagle reported last month.DePerno is facing off against former House Speaker Tom Leonard and state Rep.
Leonard has called on DePerno to disclose what happened to nearly $400,000 he raised through"election fraud" fundraising. DePerno has called on Leonard to be fired from a private law firm, claiming he used privileged information for political ammunition, according to the Detroit Free Press. DePerno's letter said he retained the firm as part of a bid to fight an investigation by the Michigan Attorney Grievance Commission.
