Former President Donald Trump says he agrees with an assessment by journalist and podcaster Megyn Kelly about how Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) would not stand a chance in a face-off against Trump in the 2024 Republican primary contest.
Kelly, who was criticized by Trump in graphic fashion during the 2016 election cycle, made the prediction in a recent interview with BlazeTV Host Dave Rubin.
During the lengthy conversation, Kelly said she doubts anyone could beat Trump in a battle for the GOP presidential nomination in 2024, and when asked about the Florida governor, she insisted,"The only way DeSantis is going to become the Republican nominee is if Trump chooses not to run and endorses him or dies.
Trump shared a clip of this interview, which appeared to be sped up, on his Truth Social account late Wednesday. "I AGREE!" he said in all capital letters.Neither Trump nor DeSantis have declared a bid for the White House in 2024. Trump has heavily hinted that he plans to commit to a third campaign for the White House in 2024 but has not formally declared his candidacy."I will probably have to do it again," he said at a rally this past weekend.
There have been signs of friction between the two, including this weekend when Trump posted on Truth Social, "BIG MISTAKE!", after DeSantis recorded a robocall for a Republican candidate whom the former president has rejected.
Afterwards, in an interview with CNN, Trump complained of being asked"ridiculous questions" and said of Kelly, “You could see there was blood coming out of her eyes. Blood coming out of her … wherever.” Trump and his allies went on to berate Kelly for months, a period she later recalled as being a "scary" time.
