Ernesto is no threat to the continental U.S.
Tropical Storm Ernesto will reach Puerto Rico later tonight but then turn north before it reaches the continental United States. It could become a hurricane in a few days.Tropical Storm Ernesto was bringing wind and rain to parts of the Leeward Islands on Tuesday morning as it continued westward on a path toward Puerto Rico.
The hurricane center’s official forecast track turns Ernesto north near Puerto Rico and keeps the storm well east of the continental United States. As of 5 a.m. CDT Tuesday, Tropical Storm Ernesto was located about 350 miles east-southeast of San Juan, Puerto Rico, and was moving to the west at 20 mph.
Ernesto could bring 4 to 6 inches of rain to parts of the Leeward and Virgin Islands. Puerto Rico could get 3 to 6 inches, with isolated areas get up to 10 inches.
