“Some additional strengthening is possible during the next day or so, but when the cyclone moves into the eastern Caribbean Sea, the atmospheric environment is expected to become increasingly unfavorable for intensification.'
Tropical Storm Bret strengthened overnight as it continues its beeline toward the Caribbean while a second system in the Atlantic could form this week, according to the National Hurricane Center.
“On the forecast track, the center of Bret is expected to approach the Lesser Antilles on Thursday, move across the Lesser Antilles late Thursday and Thursday night, and then move westward across the eastern and central Caribbean Sea Friday and Saturday,” the NHC stated in its advisory.The NHC warned storm rainfall through Saturday could be from 3 to 6 inches with some areas seeing as much as 10 inches across the Lesser Antilles from Guadeloupe south to Grenada and Barbados.
Its five-day path keeps it in the open waters of the Caribbean where it’s projected to lose strength and possibly dissipate by Sunday. Meanwhile, right behind Bret in the Atlantic is a tropical wave that still has a high chance of becoming the next tropical depression or storm.
