State police said the boy presented an 'imminent threat' to troopers before he was shot Thursday afternoon in Bradford County.

A Pennsylvania State Police trooper fatally shot a boy Thursday afternoon who they say refused to drop the gun he was holding.

State police from the Towanda barracks said they were called around 5 p.m. to a wooded area of Herrick Township, Bradford County, for a “juvenile male subject armed with a handgun.” The boy did not listen to orders to drop the gun and presented himself as an “imminent threat” to troopers, state police said. One of the troopers shot the boy, causing life-threatening injuries.

State police said the boy died at Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital. His identity has not been released as of Friday morning. The Bradford County District Attorney’s Office and the state police Wilkes-Barre and Laporte stations are investigating the shooting.
