Maryland tight end CJ Dippre, who entered the NCAA transfer portal on Dec. 5, announced Friday that he will choose between the Tide and Ohio State as his next school.

Alabama offered Dippre after he visited TuscaloosaAlabama has a need at tight end with starter Cameron Latu departing for the NFL after five seasons. The Tide’s primary backup this season was sophomore Robbie Ouzts, but he played more ofthan a traditional tight end. Ouzts caught four passes for 43 yards this regular season.

The other tight ends on Alabama’s roster this season have been sophomore Miles Kitselman, a junior college transfer who appeared in five games with two catches for 18 yards, and freshmen Amari Niblack , Danny Lewis and Elijah Brown . Niblack’s lone catch was a 15-yard touchdown.this week. Dippre played the last two seasons under Terrapins coach and former Alabama offensive coordinator Mike Locksley, catching 30 passes this season for 314 yards and three touchdowns. He appeared in all 13 games as a freshman in 2021, catching three passes for 25 yards.
