The no longer see-through windows need to either be repaired or replaced.
Officials are still waiting for a verdict from Rutgers Center for Advanced Infrastructure and Transportation experts about whether the old glass can be treated so riders can see through them again and avoid the replacement cost of new windows.
“NJ Transit has partnered with Rutgers CAIT to study the feasibility of repairing the windows rather than replacing,” said Jim Smith, an NJ Transit spokesperson. “If a repair process can successfully be developed, it could save millions of dollars. The study remains underway and we will report the findings when they are available.”
