Arizona State Sen. Kelly Townsend calls it quits on her congressional bid as her rupture with Wendy Rogers imperiled her chances of Trump support.
State Sen. Kelly Townsend, lacking a promised endorsement from former President Donald Trump, said Friday she is dropping her bid for a congressional seat.
Townsend was absent for the censure vote but since has made it clear she strongly disapproves of Rogers' hateful and antisemitic views and her embrace of white nationalists.
"I was personally encouraged by our President's words, and the expression of support he gave me when he rallied the faithful in Florence, Arizona," she said."However, in spite of repeated assurances, the promised formal endorsement has still not materialized."
