PARIS – Overcoming injuries to qualify for the Olympics, Aira Villegas is determined to make the most of her opportunity. The 28-year-old boxer kicks off her campaign on Sunday against Morocco’s Yasmine Mouttaki in the women’s 50kg division.
Despite the challenges, all eyes are on Villegas. With a win over Mouttaki, she’ll face Algeria’s Roumaysa Boualam in the Round of 16.The entire Philippine boxing team, including Eumir Marcial, Carlo Paalam, and Hergie Bacyadan, is brimming with confidence after rigorous training camps in France and Germany. The team is aiming to surpass its Tokyo medal haul of two silvers and one bronze and secure the elusive gold.
