A survey team found widespread damage in Mercer County and determined the tornado was on the ground for nearly 6 miles.
— ripped numerous trees out of the ground, damaged at least 10 homes and several cars, and caused additional property damage in the Lawrenceville section of Lawrence Township and also in West Windsor, according to reports from police and local residents.The weather service’s Mount Holly office determined that a small tornado struck at 3:35 p.m. Tuesday in Lawrence Township and remained on the ground for almost 6 miles before lifting up in West Windsor at 3:41 p.m.
Lawrence Township police said the tornado caused extensive damage to the Lawrence Square Village condominium complex, along with several vehicles and local commercial buildings. Police said about 60 township residents were displaced from their damaged homes and getting help from the American Red Cross and Volunteers of America.
