The history of climate change denialism is fascinating. It started as a flat-out refusal to believe it was getting warmer. Senators from fossil fuel-producing states proudly displayed snowballs on the floor of the Senate as definitive proof that climate change was a hoax. Over the years climate change denial has morphed, like all too many subjects, into a conspiracy-laden morass of nonsense. Everything’s a conspiracy now, and climate change is no different.
If you do a deep dive, not recommended, into some of the internet’s darker corners you’ll discover that climate change is a conspiratorial plot from a cabal of liberty-hating globalists looking to install a new world order and strip away the rights of decent god-fearing citizens. They want to outlaw your burger and claw that gas stove from your cold dead hand. All the while the storms get bigger, more powerful and more frequent.

Two-thirds of the country was on tornado watch last week. That’s not normal. What’s more likely, the climate is being manipulated by a cloistered secret society of global elites with access to a weather machine or that we’ve dumped so much CO2 into the air over the last century and a half of fossil fuel gluttony that we’ve turned the atmosphere into an easy bake oven?
