Eddy Cue said Google has no need to develop its own search engine due to the quality of Google’s product.

Longtime Apple executive Eddy Cue defended the company’s deal to keep Google as the default search engine on its smartphones and browsers during his closely watched testimony at the Big Tech firm’s antitrust trial on Tuesday.

“There certainly wasn’t a valid alternative we would have gone to at the time,” Cue testified in Washington, D.C.,He added that Apple has had no need to develop its own in-house search engine due to the quality of Google’s product.Cue’s testimony backed a key defense by Google’s lawyers, who say consumers opt for the company’s search engine because it is a high-quality service.

Cue admitted that Google’s legal team pushed for the clause’s inclusion during contract renegotiations in 2016.
