Nevertheless, people love rankings whether it’s college football rankings, school rankings or the sheep-to-person rankings. That’s because it gives people a sense of how they measure up, regardless of how accurate the rankings may be.
In case you don’t know what the word “promiscuity” really means because you didn’t listen closely enough to the Nelly Furtado song, Dictionary.com does offer up the following definition for the word: “characterized by or involving indiscriminate mingling or association, especially having sexual relations with a number of partners on a casual basis.” Thus, the stated purpose of the Index was to “gauge each country’s attitude toward acceptance of and engagement in promiscuous sex,”.
Furthermore, data for this Index did come from varied sources. As you can imagine, information on some of the six factors was more straightforward, easier to obtain and accurate than others. It’s relatively straightforward to read the laws to determine whether premarital sex and prostitution are legal in a country. Many countries make the rates of reportable STDs readily available online such as via the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website.
