Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) president Abraham 'Bambol' Tolentino hopes that Asian Games host China will treat the Philippine delegation fairly during the games despite the tension between the two countries at the West Philippine Sea.
'We will be leaving next week but we will have a send-off party by Malacañang on Monday,' said Tolentino in the Pandesal Forum at the Kamuning Bakery Cafe on Friday, September 15.'The athletes will arrive three days before the tournament. The opening will be on the 23rd and hopefully, the host's treatment will be good to us because there are issues regarding the West Philippine Sea. I hope it won't affect our relationship with the host country. Sports unifies all.
On September 8, the Chinese coast guard and militia vessels harassed the Philippines Coast Guard that were escorting resupply boats on the mission in Ayungin Shoal, which is in the exclusive economic zone of the Philippines.Tolentino said the Philippine delegation for the Asian Games is ready for battle as the country aims to eclipse its 4-gold medal haul in the 2018 edition of the multi-sport tournament held in Indonesia.'We are very much prepared.
