Exclusive: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles co-writer & director Jeff Rowe reveals the two Jackie Chan classics that inspired TMNTMutantMayhem's fight scenes:

Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT As his casting proves to be an important step up for the movies, co-writer/director Jeff Rowe reveals how two Jackie Chan classics inspired Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem's fight scenes. The upcoming animated movie acts as a reboot of the Turtles' big screen franchise, following their early days of crime fighting as they go up against an army of mutants led by the ruthless Superfly.

While speaking exclusively with Screen Rant to discuss the movie's release, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem's Jeff Rowe opened up about casting Jackie Chan for the animated reboot.

Yeah, that was absolutely us just spending hours looking at Police Story and Rumble in the Bronx and just being like, "What makes a Jackie Chan fight sequence work?" It's the relatability, it's the fact that he always starts at a disadvantage, it's the editing, it's the shooting style. There's just a funny comedic rhythm to them that we were like, "That is what this movie should feel like.

Why Jackie Chan Is The Best Splinter Casting Yet Since making his debut on screen with the '80s animated show, Splinter has been voiced by a dozen different actors within the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise, with Chan becoming the thirteenth in Mutant Mayhem. Though more important than Chan's action background is the racial authenticity of having the Rush Hour alum playing the Turtles' father, as he is technically only the third actor of Asian descent to play the character.

Given Splinter's origins range from being the pet of martial artist Hamato Yoshi to being Yoshi himself mutated and reincarnated, it could be argued Chan still isn't the perfect fit for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem character, with a Japanese actor a better choice. That being said, the creatives behind the animated reboot could very well tweak his backstory to better fit his actor and make for an appropriately authentic cast from top to bottom.
