Australia’s former “First Bloke” has admitted he sexually assaulted a friend in Melbourne last year by sucking on her nipple after she fell asleep while they watched a Whitney Houston documentary.
The woman fell asleep on the couch, before waking up to Mathieson sucking her nipple and cupping her right breast, the court heard. Noting his client’s exemplary record of good behavior prior to the incident and his work with numerous charities, Penno pleaded with Magistrate Franjic to not record a conviction against Mathieson.
He became known as Australia’s “First Bloke,” moving into the Lodge when Ms Gillard became Prime Minister in 2010.Mathieson had an intimate relationship with the former prime minister for over a decade before ending in late 2020/early 2021.The reversal of traditional gender roles, a first in Australia, saw Mathieson take up duties normally carried out by Prime Ministers’ wives.
