The DA-BFAR Regional Fisheries Office III harvested over 400 kilos of tilapia from three of the 12 High Density Polyethylene fish cages located in the Pantabangan Aquaculture Park in the province of Nueva Ecija.
Initiated in 2022, the park utilizes the Pantabangan reservoir for research to enhance freshwater aquaculture species production, particularly Tilapia, and uplift the livelihoods of underprivileged fisherfolk and isolated fishing communities in Nueva Ecija. “Anticipated to amplify local fish production, the Pantabangan Aquaculture Park is poised to benefit not only the province but the entire Central Luzon region,” said Regional Director Wilfredo Cruz, who led the harvesting this morning.
Furthermore, according to Mr. Joseph Bitara, Pantabangan Aquapark Project Focal Person, the HDPE material exhibits superior efficiency and longevity compared to alternatives like bamboo and GI pipe. The DA-BFAR III, with the National Irrigation Administration and the Protected Area Development, will study the production data to assess harvest quality and ensure the continuous development and expansion of the park.
