PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. - The rumble of motorcycle engines has quieted as Thunder Beach Bike Week wraps up in Panama City Beach. But the annual event, which draws thousands of riders and spectators to the area, concluded with a number of motorcycle accidents, some resulting in severe injuries and fatalities.
During the week-long rally, an influx of riders led to congested roads, which may have contributed to an uptick in traffic incidents. The Florida Highway Patrol and other law enforcement agencies responded to multiple crashes involving motorcyclists. These incidents underscore the importance of safety measures for both riders and drivers sharing the road.
“We want everyone to come here and have a great time at these Thunder Beach rallies.” Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Emily Melton said. “However, we do want everyone abiding by the law.” Melton mentioned safety doesn’t solely rely on the motorcyclist. There are some things Panama City Beach residents can do to ensure these roadways are as safe as possible. Those include always being aware of your surroundings when operating a motor vehicle and obeying all traffic laws, including the speed limit.
