These grooms went all out on both fireworks and dessert for their wedding in a lavish French garden.
J. Brooks, the founder and CEO of the video technology platform GlassView, met Citigroup managing director Yann Coatanlem in the hallowed halls of their iconic Upper East Side church. “We met at a cocktail partychurch, to be more specific,” J. says, laughing. “The Island Club at St. Bart’s on Park Avenue hosts a biannual event, and this is where we first struck up a conversation.”
On New Year’s Day in 2017, Yann proposed at sunset on the beach of Punta Martineau on the island of Vieques. “We were both still in our swimsuits, and he got down on one knee,” J. remembers. “I was completely caught off guard.” The ceremony was the perfect blend of French and American customs. J.’s father read the Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi while trying, albeit unsuccessfully, to hold back tears. “The ceremony was just magical,” J. remembers. “We had gotten very sage advice from our dear friend Stephanie Newhouse to remain present during the day. Consequently, we became increasingly hands-off in the weeks leading up to the date. This allowed us to detach from the details.
