They’re building online brands through deliberately irreverent and playful-meets-elegant designs that perform well on social media. These are not your grandmother’s diamonds.

Mark Sabino is emblematic of this ongoing shift. The 25-year-old Pratt graduate, who is based in Manhattan, dishes out handmade pieces that seamlessly blend nostalgia, internet culture, and skillful design and production. Rihanna wore a bucket hat by Sabino—which featured the New York Yankees logo—in September 2020. There is levity to Sabino’s work.

“I think what I’m trying to do for jewelry is find that same connection between modern accessibility and ‘classic’ design,” Sabino tells. He speaks in explicitly millennial language and references—Supreme, Kanye West, Tyler, the Creator, Instagram—when discussing his influences. “Similar to what Supreme did [by] offering a boutique out of a skate shop,” he says.

Sabino is most known for his jewelry design, but he also produces equally imaginative and on-trend apparel and objects. So much so that last year, a stylist for Rihanna reached out to Sabino and said the superstar would like to procure a frayed and distressed bucket hat, emblazoned with the New York Yankees logo, that Sabino had posted online.
