Enthralled, Baek asked his parents if he could go to Korea for the summer and audition to become a K-pop singer himself. His father said, not in so many words, that if Baek could get into Harvard University, he could do whatever he wanted — and years later, Baek did just that. His acne-prone skin "became an issue in front of the camera," Baek says. "So I was sent to the dermatologist very regularly, but I didn't have a lot of guidance when it came to daily care. By chance I met a veteran cosmetic formulator on a small online forum, and she sparked my interest in formulation and helped me get my skin under control."
