Its most popular items include the Korean Beef BBQ Dumpling, stuffed with bulgogi-style beef, and the Mission chicken potstickers with a creamy dipping sauce.
Owners Julia Zhu and Sandy Zheng have seen much success at their popular dumpling house since opening in October 2020, prompting the women-owned business to open its first new location in the Marina, followed by an Oakland eatery planned for later this year.
Dumplings are a well sought-after comfort food, especially in the Bay Area, which boasts a healthy mix between independently owned businesses and chain restaurants forto choose from. Zhu and Zheng also told What Now San Francisco that they recently applied for beer and wine licenses at both upcoming locations.
The friends and business owners both grew up in Northern China, with dumplings as a special food enjoyed during family reunions. For them, making dumplings is a communal affair — with different people pitching in to help make the filling, dough and then shaping the perfect dumplings before they're cooked.
Influenced by the surrounding flavors of their communities, United Dumplings features familiar Korean and Mexican spices and ingredients on their menu. Some of its most popular items include the Korean Beef BBQ Dumpling, stuffed with bulgogi-style beef, and the Mission chicken potstickers with a creamy dipping sauce.
Each new dumpling location is promised to have slightly different menu offerings that reflect the respective neighborhood. At the United Dumplings' upcoming Marina spot, Zhu told What Now San Francisco that they're developing an"empanada-like" item called Little Havana, incorporating the flavors found in Cuban cuisine.
