Nice work if you can get it: Meet a banker who specializes in advising and lending to wineries
Rob McMillan started his career in banking just like many others have, in a drab room with a calculator. Now he spends his working days sipping wine, visiting vineyards and studying trends in alcohol consumption.
Mr. McMillan, an executive vice president at Silicon Valley Bank, wrote the business plan for the firm’s wine division in 1991. The division, which lends to U.S. wine producers, has grown to about 35 employees and makes up around 4% of the bank’s $29 billion loan book.
