The women's basketball national team made history by winning the 2023 FIBA Asia Cup Division B. This added to the team's confidence ahead of the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games.

The Indonesian women's national team secured the championship title with a dramatic 55-54 victory over Iran in the final match at Nimibutr Stadium, Bangkok, Thailand, on Saturday evening . With this result, Indonesia has made history again by being promoted to Division A for the first time since the two-division format was applied in 1994. The"Red and White Athena" will compete in the 2025 Asia Cup, replacing Taiwan who has been relegated.
The national team closed out the FIBA Asia Cup 2023 Division B with a record of five victories out of five matches. This includes two wins against Iran, one of which was achieved during the Group A stages. Indonesia also defeated Malaysia and Mongolia in the same round. Marlina Herawan's team then beat Thailand in the semifinals.
In the final match against Iran, Indonesia's collective play successfully led Indonesia to victory. Indonesia had difficulty scoring after achieving 55 points with only 1 minute and 31 seconds left in the game. Meanwhile, Iran managed to catch up and was only one point behind Indonesia with 15 seconds remaining. In that remaining time, Indonesia had four opportunities for free throws, but none of them resulted in points.
With the 10th ranking in Asia, Indonesia is the team with the highest rank in Division B. Only Kazakhstan has a position closest to Indonesia. Kazakhstan could only finish in sixth place.
