He said he would go into a room and there was a big chair in it and he would drink a giant glass of red wine and watch his cobras dance for him. And then, eventually, they would turn around and hit the glass of the cage that they were in and it would scare the hell out of him. Dave said he was like his favorite guest of all time. No one else is living that version of a life.
There were times when I think I, more than Tom, was trying to talk myself into other ideas. The only actually good idea — I don’t know whose it was — was to have either Christian Bale or Daniel Day-Lewis playing Nick Cage. But really, no. Nobody else who really has a mixture of the super high talent he has and the goodwill of people wanting him to —One of the most powerful moments on set where I got kind of emotional was I think Tom had COVID.
