at 14, sent shockwaves through the industry when she lopped them off for a peroxide pixie cut at 19, and now, at 27, is ushering in a new era with the ultimate bad-good cut:“Miley’s mullet was inevitable—we both felt it,” explains hairstylist Sally Hershberger, who has shared a special creative connection with the singer ever since they first met in 2015, backstage at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, where her friend Joan Jett was being inducted.
”While conceptualizing the cut, Hershberger drew inspiration from a look she gave model Stella Tennant for an Italianshoot lensed by Steven Meisel years ago, making a few updates based on Cyrus’s face shape, natural texture, and daily styling preferences. The end result was a modern feathery shag characterized by choppy fringe in the front and swoopy, shoulder blade–grazing lengths in the back.
