In our secular times, Lent hardly makes a difference.
In his book 'Does God Exist?' the well-known, albeit controversial Swiss theologian Hans Kung posits that while radical acceptance and radical rejection of reality are options, they do not stand on the same footing, for while radical rejection makes impossible, the experience of meaning because of its a priori rejection of any lasting sense, value and worth to existence, radical acceptance — in the very act of acceptance — makes the experience of meaning and value possible.
