The Midnight Club is a sprawling meditation on mortality
has bigger ambitions. For Ilonka did not arrive at Brightcliffe merely to find peace in her eventual demise. Ever the curious student, Ilonka knows there’s an esoteric history to the space—to the land, even—that her new housemates know little about. It involves sacrifices and cults, ancient goddesses and miraculous cures—and yes, even a hint of the supernatural. It explains why she sometimes sees lurking shadows and creepy older women haunting the hallways.
On the one hand, this is a serialized story about a group of teenagers grappling with death.an anthology of horror tales that refract that very same thematic concern. This means that there’s a stop-and-go cadence to every episode where the plot quite literally halts itself so we can journey into one of the Club’s many late-night narratives .struggles to weave those two halves together. It’s that such stitching necessarily comes with a cost.
