To the casual observer, it might have appeared that the legendary Jersey jangle-pop combo disappeared during those early-80s gap years, but, in fact, they were playing all the time – just not as the Feelies.
The Feelies are, from left, Brenda Sauter, Bill Million, Stan Demeski, Glenn Mercer and Dave Weckerman. For their first three shows at Jersey City’s White Eagle Hall, the Feelies played multiple sets with no opening act. That will change when the legendary Jersey jangle-pop combo returns for its fourth visit on Friday, Nov. 18. Except that the openers will be ... the Feelies. Sort of.
For this performance, the Feelies will open for themselves as the Willies, one of several aliases they adopted during the six-year hiatus between their groundbreaking 1980 debut “Crazy Rhythms” and 1986′s less frenetic, more pastoral “The Good Earth,” when the band resumed playing and recording regularly.
